I start the color as the show opens at noon. The yellow takes a long time to fill in by hand, and up to this point it is just a flat color so I can't get a feel for the piece yet.

...and here is Rorschach with final shading and "ink" lines. I changed the coloring of the original art to make it move dramatic. Most of the light reflections (and muscle shade on Manhattan) are not in the original art.

Dark areas make some of the hat go quicker, but the large emblem is seriously complex, I think I had nearly and hour and a half on that section alone.

As usual, I make the color more saturated than the original to try and make it pop as much as possible. The shadow of the bulding messed with me for a while, it also messed with my camera so this isn't the best photo.

The pavement is wet from the previous days rain. the chalk doesn't want to stick and the water muddies it up. Here is an example of what I was fighting against.

Although I always work top to bottom, the lower portion dried faster so I work on the boots and leg armor. I actually end up jumping around all over the place.

After a few hours it starts to take shape, areas like the face, hand and leg look great... others are still wet and I cannot get to them before another downpour hits the art festival.

A close-up of where I was starting to get to with the face. I was making progress and starting to add detail and better lighting... then the rain hit.

In 30 seconds the art was reduced to this and I had loose my first EVER mural to rain before it is done. I hope to try again with Marko's work very soon!

For the Otakon in Baltimore, I create a chalk art mural of the characters Sumi and Kei, based on my cousin Alexis and my friend Kelly. The piece will take up my living room for a weekend, or so I think.

There is a power outlet right in the middle of the floor with sharp edges that I take apart or else it will damage the paper.

I tape cardboard over the opening so I can draw here. It isn't perfect, but the sharp edges are gone.

I draw the Sumi character. NO, she is not wearing an eyepatch, I made a mistake. We artists do that from time to time. I will fix it when I color it in... or so I think.
